Mixed Martial Arts
By: Naruhisa Hoguchi

What exactly does Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) mean? As it stands today, the term refers to multiple disciplines being used in sport fighting, most commonly in a cage or ring and a set of rules. Formerly we used terms like “No Holds Barred” (NHB) “Ultimate Fighting”, “Full Contact Fighting” (FCF) and in some places like Brazil, still use the term Vale Tudo.

However, is Mixed Martial Arts just limited to this? So, if MMA refers to multiple disciplines being used, does Kickboxing fall under this definition? Muay Thai Kickboxing uses kicks, punches, elbows, knees and takedowns.

Many other Martial Arts systems incorporate multiple disciplines and styles. Others include weapons. Do these qualify as Mixed Martial Arts? Or do they, only if are just used for sports?

MMA is not boxing, and should not be governed like it.

Rule Changes - Mixed Martial Arts needs a combination of old UFC and old Pride FC rules.

Like time limits vs. rounds. Those who are familiar with Pride FC, they used a 10 minute 1st round, followed with a 5 minute 2nd round.

Also, a combination of Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling rules for scoring in addition to striking.

When stand up is doing nothing, put them down on the mat.

Professional Cockfighting

The history of training birds for professional fighting goes back some 6,000 years. This ancient spectator sport has been enjoyed for over 6000 years with origins in Persia, Asia and ancient Greece cultures.

Modern cockfighting was first documented by Antonio Pigafetta (Magellan's chronicler) in 1521 while in the Philippines and in the book - The Commendation of Cocks and Cock Fighting in 1607.

The Fighters, referred to as Gamecocks are specially bred, trained and conditioned for increased stamina and strength. These athletes complete in both unarmed fights and armed fights with weapons (spurs). These are usually attached to the left leg.

Naked heel fights are typically 3 rounds of 20 minutes with a 20 minute rest or 4 rounds of 15 minutes and a 15 minute rest between rounds.

Gamecocks careers are short, and they usually retire after 5 Fights. Judged by a referee, their verdict is final and not subject to any appeal.

The World Slasher Cup - Is the most prestigious international derby since in 1963.
